What is an email alias?

  • Simply put, an email alias is a forwarding email address. It is most commonly used as a way to replace a long or difficult to remember email address or create a secondary email address for spam or junk mail.  In most cases, you can assign certain labels to an alias to categorize emails as they are received.

Why would I use an email alias?

  • In Wodify, you can use an alias email as a very simple way to create multiple accounts with the same email address. Keep in mind, this is a different solution than merging accounts (which is for accounts belonging to the same person). Email aliases should be used when multiple people share the same email inbox and are great for families sharing an email address.
  • See the steps below for how to create an email alias for Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook and iCloud email accounts. Your email provider not listed? In most cases, a simple google search can tell you how to create an alias through your email provider.
  • Gmail
    • Gmail offers extremely simple-to-use aliases and there is no limit to the number of alias that can be used. Follow the steps below to begin using an alias for your gmail account:

      3. For example, messages sent to jane.doe+notes@gmail.com are delivered to jane.doe@gmail.com.
